2006 Community Profiles

Suppression criteria

  1. If the data are calculated from 100% of the Canadian population, the data are suppressed if the total population in the area is less than 40 persons.

  2. If the data are calculated from the 20% sample of the Canadian population, the data are suppressed if the total non-institutional population in the area from either the 100% or 20% databases is less than 40 persons.

  3. Persons living on Indian reserves and Indian settlements who were enumerated with the 2006 Census Form 2D questionnaire were not asked the questions on citizenship and immigration. Consequently, data are suppressed for Indian reserves and Indian settlements at the census subdivision level. These data are, however, included in the totals for larger geographic areas such as provinces and territories.

  4. Income distributions and related statistics are suppressed if the non-institutional population in the area from either the 100% or 20% databases is less than 250 persons or if the number of private households is less than 40.

  5. The data are suppressed if the quality of data is considered inadequate due to incompletely enumerated Indian reserves and Indian settlements.

  6. Suppression of data can be due to poor data quality or to other technical reasons.

  7. View the list of areas that are suppressed for 100% data.

  8. View the list of areas that are suppressed for the 20% sample data.

Non-institutional population

Non-institutional residents are persons who do not reside in an 'institutional' collective dwelling, other than staff members and their families. 'Institutional' collective dwellings are children's group homes (orphanages), nursing homes, chronic care hospitals, residences for senior citizens, hospitals, psychiatric institutions, treatment centres and institutions for the physically handicapped, correctional and penal institutions, young offenders' facilities and jails.

Incompletely enumerated Indian reserves and Indian settlements

On some Indian reserves and Indian settlements in the 2006 Census, enumeration was not permitted or was interrupted before it could be completed. Moreover, for some Indian reserves and Indian settlements, the quality of the enumeration was considered inadequate. These geographic areas (a total of 22) are called incompletely enumerated Indian reserves and Indian settlements. Data for 2006 are therefore not available for the incompletely enumerated reserves and settlements and are not included in tabulations.

A list of incompletely enumerated Indian reserves and Indian settlements has been compiled.
