In 2011, Hinton (Town) had a population of 9,640, representing a percentage change of -1.0% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 33.77 square kilometres with a population density of 285.4 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 640,081.87 square kilometres with a population density of 5.7 persons per square kilometre.
