  • Global non-response rate (GNR), short-form census questionnaire: 9.6%.
  • In 2016, 13.6% of adults aged 15 and over living in private dwellings lived alone, 48.7% lived in a couple and 10.6% lived as a lone parent.
  • 52.5% of persons living in a couple were married in 2016, while 47.5% were living common law.
  • In 2016, the proportion of young adults aged 20 to 34 living with at least one parent was 35.1% compared to 28.8% in 2011.
  • In 2016, there were 5 same-sex couples.
  • In 2016, among couple census families 32.5% were families without children and 68.0% were families with children.

Marital status, Region 1, 2016

In Region 1, 49.5% of the total population aged 15 and over were either married (27.0%) or living with a common-law partner (22.5%).

The remaining 50.6% were not married and not living with a common-law partner, including those who were single (never-married), separated, divorced or widowed.
