33. Percentage recent immigrants (arrived in last 5 years)

In this product, recent immigrants are immigrants who landed in Canada within the approximate 5 year period prior to the census. Specifically, the 2006 Census figure includes recent immigrants who landed in Canada between January 1, 2001 and Census Day, May 16, 2006. The 2001 Census figure includes recent immigrants who landed in Canada between January 1, 1996 and Census Day, May 15, 2001. The 1996 Census figure includes recent immigrants who landed in Canada between January 1, 1991 and Census Day, May 14, 1996. Immigrants are persons who are, or have ever been, landed immigrants in Canada. A landed immigrant is a person who has been granted the right to live in Canada permanently by immigration authorities.
