Table 2 Changes to the census subdivision codes, names, and types in numerical order, by province and territory

Table 2 is a bilingual table. This table presents only changes that impact on the Standard Geographical Classification (SGC)4 and therefore excludes annexations and boundary revisions. The changes are listed in SGC code order.

Downloading the data

Statistics Canada has provided the data in three file formats:

  • CSV (Comma Separated Values) which allows you to access each table in any spreadsheet application.
  • XLS (Microsoft Excel Spreadsheet) that can be viewed with Microsoft Excel.
  • TXT (tab-delimited ASCII files).

4. The Standard Geographical Classification (SGC) is Statistics Canada's official classification of geographic areas in Canada. The SGC provides unique numeric identification for three types of geographic areas. They are: provinces/territories; census divisions; and census subdivisions. The three geographic areas are hierarchically related. This relationship is reflected in the seven-digit code.
