Permission not given: There were 11 band councils that did not give permission to enter their territory for a total of 14 Indian reserves and Indian settlements.

Natural event: Indian reserves and Indian settlements where enumeration was not possible as a result of natural events (specifically, the forest fires in Northern Ontario) at the time of 2011 Census collection. Collection for these communities was done in the fall of 2011. Data for the 13 Northern Ontario reserves are available at the following link: Profile for the National Household Survey Special Collection for 13 Indian reserves and Indian settlements in Northern Ontario, 2011.

Enumeration not completed – other: Enumeration was not completed for reasons such as access restrictions, health and safety issues, etc.
