  • Global non-response rate (GNR), short-form census questionnaire: 3.9%.
  • In 2016, 11.5% of adults aged 15 and over living in private dwellings lived alone, 58.1% lived in a couple and 4.8% lived as a lone parent.
  • 84.5% of persons living in a couple were married in 2016, while 15.5% were living common law.
  • In 2016, the proportion of young adults aged 20 to 34 living with at least one parent was 28.3% compared to 26.0% in 2011.
  • In 2016, there were 2,460 same-sex couples.
  • In 2016, among couple census families 43.6% were families without children and 56.4% were families with children.

Marital status, Calgary, 2016

In Calgary, 58.9% of the total population aged 15 and over were either married (50.0%) or living with a common-law partner (8.9%).

The remaining 41.1% were not married and not living with a common-law partner, including those who were single (never-married), separated, divorced or widowed.
