Data products, 2021 Census

These 2021 Census products provide statistical information about the population, age, sex at birth and gender, type of dwelling, families, households and marital status, Canadian military experience, income, language, Indigenous peoples, housing, immigration, place of birth and citizenship, ethnocultural and religious diversity, mobility and migration, education, labour, and commuting as measured in the Census Program.

Description: This product offers a visual overview of interprovincial migration by language group in Canada from 1976 to 2021. The language variables showcased in this product are the first official language spoken and mother tongue. It provides information on the number and rate of in-migrants, out-migrants and the net migration of each province and territory from 1976 to 2021. Data can be filtered by province or territory, language variable, language group, and group of migrants.

Description: The 2021 Census Individuals File PUMF represents a sample of the Canadian population and provides access to individual records which have been anonymized. It is a comprehensive social, demographic and economic database about Canada and its people and includes a wealth of information on population characteristics.

Title:Canadian-born Black populations: Educational attainment and earnings

Description: This infographic analyzes three different Canadian-born Black populations: those with at least one parent born in Africa, those with at least one parent born in the Caribbean, and those with both parents born in Canada. It looks at how educational attainment differs between the three different Canadian-born Black populations, and how education along with other factors contributes to earnings differences between the different Black populations and between Black and non-Indigenous non-racialized populations.

Description: This infographic uses data from the 2021 Census of Population to provide a profile on non-permanent residents (NPRs) living in Canada. It presents various demographic and socio-economic characteristics of NPRs, and disaggregates by type of non-permanent resident. Data are available for the Indigenous identity population by age groups and gender for selected socio-demographic characteristics.

Description: Highlight tables provide information highlights by topic via key indicators for various levels of geography. The tables allow users to perform simple rank and sort functions.


Title:Census Program Data Viewer (CPDV)

Interactive dashboard: 98-507-X2021001

Description: The Census Program Data Viewer (CPDV) is an advanced web-based data visualization tool that will make statistical information more interpretable by presenting key indicators in a statistical dashboard. The CPDV makes it easy to find many places in Canada, see them on a map, and get basic geographic and sociodemographic data for those places. To find a specific place of interest, you can click and zoom in on a map of Canada or you can search by place name or postal code. The CPDV then displays the appropriate thematic map showing boundaries and other features. The CPDV will also enable users to easily compare indicator values for different places and help identify relationships between indicators.

Description: A thematic map focuses on the spatial variability of a specific distribution or theme (such as population density or average annual income) for standard geographic areas, whereas a reference map focuses on the location and names of geographic features. Thematic maps normally include some location or reference information to help users familiarize themselves with the geographic area covered on the map.

Title:Indigenous languages in Canada, 2021

Description: Using data from the 2021 Census of Population, this infographic shows the relative number of Indigenous people who can speak an Indigenous language well enough to conduct a conversation by language. It also shows the percent growth or decline in number of Indigenous people who can speak each Indigenous language since the 2016 Census of Population.

Description: These interactive charts show the distribution of the immigrant population by selected places of birth and by various geographic regions in Canada. Two charts are presented: one is for places of birth and the second, geographic areas. Selecting the outer ring of a region expands the number of regions with corresponding distributions in the place of residence chart. Title:How the Census counts Indigenous People in Urban Areas

Description: The infographic provides a high-level description of how the Census counts people, including Indigenous people, particularly those in urban areas. This includes efforts before and during data collection including communications and advertising, reminders, follow up calls and visits, and special outreach. It also outlines the practice of counting people based on usual place of residence on Census day. Finally, the infographic discusses studies that Statistics Canada undertakes to estimate undercoverage, that is, the net impact of some people being missed and others that are being counted more than once by the Census.

Census Datasets is a multi-census year data portal providing users with streamlined access to selected datasets from the 1991 to 2021 Census as well as the 2011 National Household Survey.
