What is the purpose of the 2026 Census of Population dissemination consultation?

The online consultation questionnaire is designed to give data users an opportunity to provide feedback regarding the 2021 Census of Population dissemination strategies and the product line (including geography products).

The information gathered during the consultation will help Statistics Canada measure user satisfaction and gather suggestions with a view to providing input into the 2026 Census of Population dissemination product line and release strategy.

When is Statistics Canada conducting the 2026 Census of Population dissemination consultation?

The 2026 Census of Population dissemination consultation will begin on January 9, 2024, and end on March 31, 2024.

The online questionnaire will be available 24 hours a day, except during scheduled maintenance.

How can I complete the 2026 Census of Population dissemination consultation questionnaire?

As of January 9, 2024, the online questionnaire will be available on the Statistics Canada website at 2026 Census of Population Consultation.

The online questionnaire link will bring you directly to the consultation questionnaire. Please complete the questionnaire to provide your feedback on the 2026 Census of Population dissemination and submit your comments to Statistics Canada by March 31, 2024.

Why have I been invited to participate in this consultation?

Invitations to participate have been emailed to individuals and organizations who are known census data users.

We appreciate your input and also encourage you to forward this invitation to colleagues who are census data users. They may also want to provide their informed responses on behalf of your organization.

The 2026 Census of Population dissemination consultation runs from January 9, 2024, to March 31, 2024. During the consultation period, we will send out follow-up emails to encourage participation. If you have already received an invitation and have completed the online questionnaire, Statistics Canada thanks you for your participation.

Statistics Canada also encourages participants to forward the consultation information to any colleagues who are census data users.

I do not have all the information required to answer the questions. Can I save the answers I've already entered and complete the questionnaire later?

A save feature is not available for this questionnaire; therefore, you will need to complete and submit your questionnaire in a single session.

How much time is required to complete the online consultation questionnaire?

The time required to complete the consultation questionnaire is estimated to be between 10 and 25 minutes, however, please note that the time required to complete the questionnaire will be different for every participant. Once you start to fill out the questionnaire, the progress bar in the top right corner will indicate your completion status.

Please note that you cannot save your questionnaire and continue later. You will need to complete and submit your questionnaire in a single session. Leaving your questionnaire inactive for more than two hours or closing your browser will terminate your session.

Can I print the questionnaire?

The option to print is not available for the 2026 Census of Population dissemination consultation questionnaire. To provide your feedback, you will need to complete the online questionnaire.

What happens to the completed questionnaire after I submit it?

Completed questionnaires are encrypted and sent directly to Statistics Canada. Encryption, or encoding, ensures that only Statistics Canada employees can access the files. The information from the questionnaires is then transferred to a separate Statistics Canada network that is not connected to any outside network. Only authorized Statistics Canada employees have access to the information from the questionnaires.

How do I know that you have received my online questionnaire?

Once you have submitted your online questionnaire, a confirmation code will appear on your screen. This indicates that Statistics Canada has received your questionnaire.
