2026 Census of Population Dissemination Consultation
Before each census, Statistics Canada initiates an extensive consultation program that allows data users and interested parties across Canada to share their views on both the content and dissemination strategy of the census.
The 2026 Census of Population Dissemination Consultation gives data users an opportunity to provide feedback regarding the dissemination strategies associated with the 2026 Census of Population product line (including geography products) within the Census Program at Statistics Canada.
The consultation period is now closed.
The consultation period on the dissemination strategies and product line of the 2026 Census of Population through an online questionnaire closed on March 31, 2024 at 11:59 p.m., and is no longer available. Statistics Canada collected a wealth of information from data users and interested parties across Canada who shared their views on the census release strategy and product line. Statistics Canada thanks all those who participated in the consultation.

Consultation objectives
The dissemination consultation gives data users an opportunity to provide feedback regarding the dissemination strategies associated with the 2026 Census of Population product and service line (including geography products) within the Census Program at Statistics Canada. Our goal is to measure satisfaction and gather suggestions with a view to provide input into the 2026 Census of Population dissemination product and service line and release strategy.
Methodology
User consultations will be primarily conducted online using an electronic questionnaire as well as through ongoing discussions with key stakeholders. Statistics Canada will then evaluate all results to design a dissemination product and service line and release strategy that meet user requirements as heard through the dissemination consultation.
Results
Statistics Canada consulted Canadians from winter to spring 2024 using both an online electronic questionnaire and engaging in virtual discussions with various stakeholders. The consultation collected a wealth of information from data users and interested parties across Canada who shared their views on the 2021 Census of Population dissemination strategies and product and service line. Statistics Canada thanks all consultation participants.
The report, "2026 Census Dissemination Consultation Results: What we heard from Canadians" summarizes the results of Statistics Canada's consultation with census data users. The report provides information on whether the product and service line offered during the 2021 cycle was sufficient in meeting users' needs, while also identifying areas of improvement, not only for the product and service line, but also the overall release strategy.
