Issue
Statistics Canada detected errors in the Census in Brief released on November 9, 2022.
There was an error in the legend for Chart 3. Within the chart legend, the label indicated “Total 18 years and over” where it should have read “Total population.”
The following data errors were found in the chart images and their accompanying data tables in the French version:
- Chart 1: one data point error in French was identified. Data point for the category “90+” in 2015 was 10.1% and should have been 9.7%.
- Chart 2: six data point errors in French were identified for the following categories:
- “Couples avec enfants âgés de 0 à 5 ans”: the data point for 2015 was 14.1% and should have been 13.5%, and the data point for 2020 was 6.4% and should have been 6.0%.
- “Couples avec enfants âgés de 6 à 17 ans”: the data point for 2015 was 9.1% and should have been 8.9%, and the data point for 2020 was 4.0% and should have been 3.8%.
- “Familles monoparentales avec un parent de sexe féminin+ et des enfants âgés de 0 à 5 ans”: the data point for 2020 was 30.6% and should have been 31.3%.
- “Familles monoparentales avec un parent de sexe masculin+ et des enfants âgés de 0 à 5 ans”: the data point for 2020 was 30.6% and should have been 30.9%.
- Chart 3: two data point errors in French were identified for the following categories:
- “Hommes cisgenres”, the data point for “Population totale” was 8.1% and should have been 8.2%.
- “Femmes transgenres”, the data point for “Population totale” was 11.9% and should have been 12.0%.
- Chart 4: five data point errors in French were identified for the following categories:
- “Halifax”, the data point for 2015 was 17.5% and should have been 17.3%.
- “Winnipeg”, the data point for 2015 was 15.1% and should have been 15.0%.
- “Windsor”, the data point for 2015 was 16.1% and should have been 15.1%.
- “Ottawa–Gatineau”, the data point for 2015 was 12.9% and should have been 12.7%.
- “Saguenay”, the data point for 2015 was 9.9% and should have been 9.8%.
- Chart 5: five data point errors in French were identified for the following categories:
- “Winnipeg”, the data point for the “Inuit” category was 14.8% and should have been 14.4%.
- “Edmonton”, the data point for the “Inuit” category was 12.6% and should have been 12.8%.
- “Vancouver”, the data point for the “Inuit” category was 17.9% and should have been 18.6%.
- “Calgary”, the data point for the “Inuit” category was 19.4% and should have been 19.8%.
- “Ottawa–Gatineau”, the data point for the “Inuit” category was 15.1% and should have been 15.3%.
Resolution
The charts (both labelling and data issues) have been corrected.
