In-migrants are those who moved into a specific geography (for example, Canada, a province, a territory, a census metropolitan area or a census agglomeration).

Footnote 2

Intraprovincial in-migrants and out-migrants lived in the same province or territory on May 16, 2006, as they did on May 16, 2005 (1-year migration) or May 16, 2001 (5-year migration). At the provincial or territorial level, these migrants are those who moved to or from another CSD within the same province or territory.

Interprovincial in-migrants and out-migrants lived in a different province or territory on May 16, 2006, from the one they lived in on May 16, 2005 (1-year migration) or May 16, 2001 (5-year migration).

External in-migrants are those who were living in Canada on Census Day, but who were living outside Canada one year earlier on May 16, 2005 (1-year migration) or five years earlier on May 16, 2001 (5-year migration).
