In 2011, Port-Cartier (Ville) had a population of 6,651, representing a percentage change of -1.6% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 1,101.31 square kilometres with a population density of 6.0 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 1,356,547.02 square kilometres with a population density of 5.8 persons per square kilometre.

In 2011, Port-Cartier (Ville) had 2,879 private dwellings occupied by usual residents. The change in private dwellings occupied by usual residents from 2006 was 1.5%. For Canada as a whole, the number of private dwellings occupied by usual residents increased 7.1%.
