In 2011, Red Deer County (Municipal district) had a population of 18,351, representing a percentage change of -1.6% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 3,949.00 square kilometres with a population density of 4.6 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 640,081.87 square kilometres with a population density of 5.7 persons per square kilometre.

In 2011, Red Deer County (Municipal district) had 6,643 private dwellings occupied by usual residents. The change in private dwellings occupied by usual residents from 2006 was 1.8%. For Canada as a whole, the number of private dwellings occupied by usual residents increased 7.1%.
