In 2011, Courtenay (City) had a population of 24,099, representing a percentage change of 9.4% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 29.38 square kilometres with a population density of 820.2 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 922,509.29 square kilometres with a population density of 4.8 persons per square kilometre.
