In 2011, Grande Prairie County No. 1 (Municipal district) had a population of 20,347, representing a percentage change of 13.5% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 5,862.74 square kilometres with a population density of 3.5 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 640,081.87 square kilometres with a population density of 5.7 persons per square kilometre.

In 2011, Grande Prairie County No. 1 (Municipal district) had 7,195 private dwellings occupied by usual residents. The change in private dwellings occupied by usual residents from 2006 was 15.7%. For Canada as a whole, the number of private dwellings occupied by usual residents increased 7.1%.
