Data quality- In 2016, 15.3% of adults aged 15 and over living in private dwellings lived alone, 57.8% lived in a couple and 6.1% lived as a lone parent.
- 81.0% of persons living in a couple were married in 2016, while 19.0% were living common law.
- In 2016, the proportion of young adults aged 20 to 34 living with at least one parent was 29.7% compared to 30.3% in 2011.
- In 2016, there were 2,250 same-sex couples.
- In 2016, among couple census families 57.2% were families without children and 42.8% were families with children.

In Nova Scotia, 57.6% of the total population aged 15 and over were either married (46.8%) or living with a common-law partner (10.8%).
The remaining 42.4% were not married and not living with a common-law partner, including those who were single (never-married), separated, divorced or widowed.
