In 2011, Clearwater County (Municipal district) had a population of 12,278, representing a percentage change of 3.8% from 2006. This compares to the national average growth of 5.9%.

Land area is 18,691.78 square kilometres with a population density of 0.7 persons per square kilometre. This compares to the provincial land area of 640,081.87 square kilometres with a population density of 5.7 persons per square kilometre.

In 2011, Clearwater County (Municipal district) had 4,698 private dwellings occupied by usual residents. The change in private dwellings occupied by usual residents from 2006 was 5.6%. For Canada as a whole, the number of private dwellings occupied by usual residents increased 7.1%.
